The
Heartbeat of JMC
 |
|
|
|
The
greatest pursuit of JMC is an intimate relationship with
Jesus. The depth of that relationship then leads
to the development of character. This process is
invariably tougher that any of us would ever have
imagined, but that is what Master's Commission is all
about.
The First
goal of Master's Commission is Discipleship.
Each day of Master's Commission starts with a time of
worship, personal prayer, Bible reading, and a
student-led devotional. Students also gather
weekly in our guys/girls discipleship groups in order to
sharpen one another on a deeper, more personal level.
The Second
goal of Master's Commission is Education.
Many dream of winning the world for Jesus, which is a
great goal since Jesus himself told us that the
"fields are ready to be harvested." How
tragic, however, to rush into those fields with tools
that are dull and will only yield a limited
harvest. Discipleship will sharpen students
and make them much more effective. Education
will give them sharp tools to use in the work of
God. One of those tools is your mind, which God
will use to guide students into all truth. Each
week one of the pastors on staff at Oceanway Assembly
of God will teach the students the dynamics of
ministry. Students will also take classes from
Southeastern University which has developed a church
based training program. This training will include
spiritual college level education and the opportunity to
be credentialed, licensed, and ordained in three year
span of JMC. The credits earned through
Southeastern are transferable as elective credits at
other universities and colleges.
The Third goal of
JMC is to provide every student with "hands
on" ministry experience. To fulfill the
third goal of JMC, we must put discipleship and
education into practice. JMC strives to give
students the opportunity to be involved in as wide a
range of ministries as possible. This is where we
effectively do what He has called us to do.
When all is said
and done, the development of a personal relationship
with Jesus is the highest priority! Intimacy with
Jesus does not just happen. Extreme choices are
the only way to attain extreme results. Master's
Commission disciples must commit to nine months without
dating or having any other relationships within their
first year that could possibly hinder that
intimacy. The challenge is intense. Jesus
had no limits in what He was willing to give up.

Common
Questions
 |
| |
|
| |
Q
~ Is Master's Commission only for people who want to be
in full-time ministry?
A ~ No.
Master's Commission is for anyone who wants to
passionately pursue the fullness of God, respond to His
leading with obedience and then fulfill His desires with
excellence. What our world needs are more people
who will sell out 100% to God, regardless of what the do
for a living. Master's Commission will shape
future evangelists, pastors, and missionaries. Our
prayer is that we will also shape future lawyers,
teachers, and business people.
Q ~ How will I
personally benefit from this program?
A ~ The
most important benefit to JMC is the opportunity to
develop a more intimate and grounded relationship with
Christ that will enable students to be a more effective
witness for Him in this world. For nine months,
students will live in an environment created for no
other reason than to have a deep walk with Christ.
Daily practicing disciplines of prayer, Scripture
memory, personal devotions, and servanthood will develop
the godly habits and allow students to stand upon a
stronger foundation in a world that surrounds them with
the opportunity to fall.
Q ~ In what
ministries will students be involved?
A~ Students'
ministry exposure will not be from the sidelines or
behind a desk closed off from the "real
world". Rather, Master's Commission offers
front-line, "hands-on" ministry exposure to a
wide range of needs represented in our world
today. Master's Commission is not about
spotlighting talent. Instead we are about having
as much purity as possible in out hearts and motives
when we give our talents to God. That motivation
affects all areas of ministry and is what we strive for
in all we do. It is our sole desire to expose
students to the many ministries in our church by
allowing them to become involved. This allows them
to explore the passion in ministry.
Q ~ When does
the program begin and end?
A ~ The
2007-2008 JMC class is scheduled to begin with
orientation on September 1st and 2nd. All students are
required to be present. Parents are also strongly
encouraged to attend. Students will be given two breaks
throughout the year. Thanksgiving break will be November
21st through the 25th. Christmas break will be December
12th through January 2nd. The program ends with a
Reflection Service on May 24th and graduation on May
25th, 2008.
Q ~ Will
every applicant be accepted?
A ~ No. Acceptance in the JMC is through an
application process for the purpose of allowing our
leadership to seek God's will concerning every
applicant. All decisions will be made after prayerful
consideration, reference checks, and phone interviews.
In order to best serve each student, there will be a
limit of 30 first year students accepted for the
2007-2008 JMC class. When these positions are filled,
that year's program will be closed. These spots are
filled on a first-come basis, so get your application in
as soon as possible. Your spot in the program will then
be secured when we have received your $500,
non-refundable deposit which is due upon acceptance.
Q ~ What about housing and meals?
A ~ Students are housed for the entire nine
months in dorms led by one of our second-year/third-year
students and staff. The students have a weekly grocery
shopping allowance per household. |

Children's
Ministry/JAM (Jesus and Me)
Students will gain training and participate in
children's worship services and outreaches in various
capacities. They will have opportunities to be involved
in bus ministry, puppetry, games, illustrated sermons,
and building life-changing relationships with children.
Lifehouse Middle School Church
Each week students will be heavily involved in one of
the fastest growing ministries here at Oceanway Assembly
of God. Students will have many opportunities to be
involved in skits, dramas, games, leading small groups
or working in our skate park.
Xchange Youth Church
Every week students will be involved in youth ministry
in several ways by visitation, praying, altar workers,
human videos, interactive sermons, and mentoring
teenagers.
Ministry to the Mentally Handicapped
God will be able to stretch students and use them to
share His love with people who have been neglected by
most of society.
Evangelism
JMC has scheduled frequent outreaches, but it is the
true desire of JMC to allow the Holy Spirit to make
sharing our faith a natural response to our walk with
Jesus that is not limited to a schedule.
Statewide Missions Trips
JMC travels quite frequently to participate in retreats,
outreaches, youth ministries, and to minister in
churches.
Foreign Missions Trips
Each year the whole group will leave the United States
to minister in a foreign country. We seek to link with a
missionary that will be able to utilize JMC in as many
different ways possible in order to impact eternity.
Drama
JMC frequently uses many types of drama to communicate
the Gospel in illustrated messages.
Music
This tool is so vital in most every area of ministry.
JMC seeks to use music in the most effective way
possible. JMC is not about spotlighting talent. Instead,
we are about having as much purity as possible in our
hearts and motives when we give our talents to God. We
strive for motivation that affects all areas of
ministry.
Inner-city Ministry to the Homeless
JMC will go into the inner city of Jacksonville to help
one of the inner city Pastors feed and minister to the
homeless. |

JMC
Day - to - Day
 |
| |
|
| |
Mornings
will largely consist of organized personal prayer, Bible
study, discipleship, scripture memorization and required
academic studies. Over the course of JMC, students will
memorize over 300 verses of scripture and complete a
significant amount of academic studies. They will be
exposed to many guest pastors and missionary speakers
who will share with them the practices of ministry from
their experience.
We devote our afternoons and evenings to being
vessels in which God can pour out of us what He pours
into us. This is our desire. Students will spend time in
numerous outreach efforts, as well as many of the
ministries at Oceanway Assembly of God. They will
learn firsthand what "full-time ministry"
means, and find the devotion it requires to fulfill the
call in which God has commissioned to every Christian.
We feel that our weekly schedule reflects our goals: (1)
creating an atmosphere where students are able to
develop godly character, and (2) to develop a servant's
heart that is ready to be used in whatever way the Lord
would direct.

Cost
 |
| |
|
| |
Upon
acceptance into JMC, there will be a $500.00
non-refundable deposit required from the individual.
Payment of this deposit will secure the student's place
in this year's program. This deposit is deducted from
the total cost of the tuition. On the day of
orientation, 4,200.00 is due. The final payment of
$1,200.00 will be due upon return from Christmas break
January 3, 2008. If a student withdraws within the first
six weeks, any refund (except for the $500.00 deposit
and any curriculum purchased) will be prorated up to six
weeks into the program. After six weeks all tuition is
forfeited.
We also recommend that the students have sufficient
funds for personal expenses. It is suggested that each
student have a savings account of at least $800 which
can be used throughout the nine-month program
(approximately $20.00 per week). This will take care of
any miscellaneous expenses. This is not required, but is
recommended for the student's own personal use. We also
suggest that the student not have any outstanding debts.
Students will not be able to pursue outside employment,
which will make it very difficult to "pay the
bills" during their stay at JMC.
